Tips Using HotSpot Network

Currently hotspot / wifi is increasingly available in many public places such as dimal-malls, restaurants, attractions, hotels and much more. Actually hotspot network in every time you make an internet connection can be dangerous to your PC or laptop you own. Hotspots are open networks that do not use encryption so that when you connect with other hotspot users, they can infiltrate and cause damage to your computer. But do not let this cause you to be afraid to use the hotspot network connection. There are a few tips to secure your computer when you use the hotspot network, namely:

1. Turn off ad-hoc wifi mode

Wifi works in two modes namely the Infrastructure Mode, you use when connected to a network and Ad-Hoc Mode. When you connect directly to another computer. If you turn on the Ad-Hoc Mode someone near you can get into your PC for free.

So do not forget to turn off Ad-Hoc Mode, in the following ways:

* Right click the wireless icon in the System Tray (right corner near your computer clock)
* Select Status, then click Properties
* Click the Wireless Networks tab
* Select the current network connection
* Click Properties, then click the Association tab
* Remove the check mark (?) On This box Computer-to-computer (ad-hoc) network.
* Click OK

2. Use a Wireless Virtual Private Network (VPN)

When you are arriving at a hotspot, people can see passwords, user names, emails, and anything you do online. one of the best ways to protect yourself is by using a wireless VPN that encrypts all information you send and receive them online. One is Hospot VPN already installed with Windows XP so that you do not need to download the software.

3. Use a Firewall

A firewall will protect you from anyone who tries to get into your computer and prevent the spyware or trojan from your PC to connect out. For maximum security, do not only depend on the XP firewall in one direction, but others use a good firewall. ZoneAlarm provides a firewall that you can use for free.

4. Turn off File Sharing

With memayikannya, you have to prevent others from taking files from your system.

How to turn off file sharing:

* Open Windows Explorer, right click on your drive or shared folder, select sharing and security
* In the Network Sharing and Security, remove the check mark (?) In the box Share this folder on the network
* Click the Apply button and then click the OK button to close the dialog box.

5. Make sure you use Hotspot official.

Ask at the information in a mall or a restaurant where the hotspot is because there may be other people who put up hotspots in public places to steal your information or data.

6. Turn off the wireless adapter when offline.

If you’re offline at a hotspot, better turn off the wireless adapter. In Windows XP, right-click the wireless icon, then select Disabled

7. Use email encryption.

Enable email encryption while you are on the hotspot.

* In Outlook 2003, click the Tools menu? Options
* As part of secure email, put a check mark (?) Or click the Encrypt box contens and attachments for outgoing messages. Click the Apply button, then click the OK button.

8. Look around you

To steal your passwords and user names, others do not have to use technical means. They can peek when you’re typing.

9. Never leave your laptop.

For this alone is not only inviting hackers but invites thieves.
