Tree felling Can Produce Electricity
Researchers in Massachusetts have found a way to get the electricity generated by trees, so the media reported this weekend.
Children around the world who have done the lemon or potato battery experiment to know that electric currents can be generated by creating a reaction between the food and two different metals.
However, researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have found another way to reap electricity from trees. They use the same metal for both electrodes which are specifically arranged so as not to create a messier impact with the impact of potato.
Although proven, the tree can be a source of electricity is an important step, one question remains, can a small voltage and generated a single tree can be used for something useful?
After spending the summer to examine the trees, the researchers found broad-leaved trees produce a constant voltage up to several hundred milivolt.
By adding an instrument called the driving voltage converter, the research team managed to obtain a voltage that can be used for 1.1 voltage, enough to run a low-powered sensor.
A team member admitted, the tree is not as practical electric power Solar energy, but he believes the system can be considered as a cheaper option for generating electricity that trees help create a sensor to detect environmental conditions or forest fires.
By using an electronic output to maintain the health of the tree is another possibility. The study published in the journal planned Transactions on Nanotechnology, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. (Kompas.com)
